The I AM exhibition global tour premiered in Amman, Jordan under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan on May 3 and was officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Wijdan Al-Hashemi, the Founder and President of The Royal Society of Fine Arts. Hundreds attended the official opening at the newly renovated National Gallery of Fine Arts from diverse walks of life. Many of the participating artists were also present, with a number flying in from other countries.
Special thanks go to H.R.H. Princess Wijdan Al-Hashemi for her belief in the importance of this exhibition, and Dr. Khalid Khreis, the Director General of the National Gallery of Fine Arts, for hosting the I AM exhibition so generously.
The I AM exhibition also served as a catalyst for a variety of events and programs around the exhibition in each location to stimulate discussion, dialogue and education, promoting further understanding around the exhibition’s peacebuilding theme. In Amman, an exciting schedule of programs and events were held (i.e. concerts, artist’s talk, etc). CARAVAN also partnered with The Ahliyyah School for Girls in order to develop the educational component for youth around the I AM exhibition focused on teenage girls in both public and private schools. Through a series of fields visits and associated workshops around I AM, the exhibition’s themes were explored – i.e. women's contribution to peace, interreligious harmony (Christian and Muslim), as well as how they see the future and the role they themselves expect to play and opportunities they hope for.
